Jere Hietala

Jere Hietala is a Finnish photographer whose work spans advertising, editorial and documentary photography, shaped by more than two decades of experience in demanding environments around the world.

Over the past 20 years, Hietala has worked across more than 60 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, photographing people, organisations, brands and stories in environments where experience, adaptability and trust are essential. His clients and collaborations have included international brands, public sector organisations and demanding field operations.

His photography combines strong visual craft with real-world field experience. Alongside his career as a photographer, Hietala has worked professionally in the security sector for more than eight years across private and government-connected environments. This background has given him a distinct ability to work calmly and professionally in complex situations — from commercial productions to challenging international assignments.

Hietala's photography and documentary work have received more than 20 domestic and international awards and recognitions, including recognition for advertising photography, conservation work and voluntary contributions supporting national defence initiatives. His work has been published internationally, including in Vanity Fair Italy, and exhibited in Milan and Dubai.

His long-term commitment to conservation and anti-poaching work in Southern Africa has also become an important part of his photographic and documentary career. These experiences were explored in the television documentary series Jere Hietala: On the Trail of Poachers, which followed his work documenting wildlife crime and conservation efforts in the field.

Today, Hietala continues to work as a photographer while expanding his work across documentary projects, preparedness, security and resilience. His approach is grounded in first-hand experience — photographing real people, real environments and real stories rather than simply observing them from a distance.

In addition to his professional work, Hietala serves in regional preparedness and security-related responsibilities in Finland, including the Itä-Uusimaa preparedness and security committee. These roles reflect his long-term commitment to resilience, public preparedness and practical community safety.
